Q: Ortho Dr. recommended this product when I measure my RT Hand it's between a 1- 2 size may I order both for fit and return the one that doesn't feel correct?

Asked by: Gail - 3/5/2018
A: Yes, that would be the best thing to do if you're in between sizes. Unless your ortho doctor has one on hand you can try on, you could see if theirs is too big or too small to know which size to order.

Answer provided by: Amy (4/27/2021)

Q: I got one of these braces a few years ago for my right hand in size 1. My hand below the knuckles measures 7 1/4 inches. The problem is my hands are very long and the hard plastic part of the brace only comes about 3/4 of the way down my thumb and digs into the CMC joint so it is very uncomfortable if I wear it for any length of time. I'm wondering if size 2 might work if the plastic part is longer. Would the velcro part just be too long? The brace is the only kind I have tried that stabilizes the joint yet allows me to do things like write and wear gloves with it on. If size 2 would work I would order a replacement and I now could use one for my left hand as well.

Asked by: Martha - 3/16/2019
A: The Size 2 might work better for you. The plastic part and the straps are longer than the Size 1.

Q: my left hand is paralyzed - is it possible/easy to put this on my right hand thumb unaided?

Q: I have a large CMC swollen bone at the base of my thumb due to osteoarthritis; so even though my size indicated below my knuckles is a 1, should I order a size 2 to accommodate the enlarged CMC

Asked by: jean - 1/8/2021
A: Yes, the size 2 may fit better than the size 1. If you have thumb CMC osteoarthritis that has progressed to significant subluxation (a large bony bump at the base of your thumb), the MetaGrip will not be able to fit properly. Additionally, normal thumb muscle mass is required for ideal fit and function, so those lacking normal thumb muscle bulk may experience inadequate stabilization.

Q: I’m considering a Metagrip Push CMC brac. I had CMC Arthroplasty reconstructive surgery on March 9, 2021. I’m a guitar player and wonder if this brace would be such that I could wear while playing or if it’s too bulky. I understand it need to be restrictive but I was hoping it could do both. I haven’t been able to play for about two months cause if this darn thumb and I’m missing it terribly and need to get back to life. Thnx, Bill

Asked by: Bill - 4/27/2021
A: You may want to ask your surgeon. According to the the manufacturer, the brace is indicated for post-operative care after thumb CMC surgery. However, if you have thumb CMC osteoarthritis that has progressed to significant subluxation (a large bony bump at the base of your thumb), the MetaGrip will not be able to fit properly. Additionally, normal thumb muscle mass is required for ideal fit and function, so those lacking normal thumb muscle bulk may experience inadequate stabilization. The brace is not bulky, so I don't think it would interfere with playing the guitar. The brace is designed to provided CMC stability during pinch & grip without impeding other joint movement. Hope this helps!
