June is Scleroderma Awareness Month. Scleroderma is a little known disease but is almost as common in the U.S. as muscular sclerosis.
What is scleroderma?
So what is scleroderma? It is a chronic disease that causes hardening of the skin and connective tissues. It appears to originate in the immune system and often results in high amounts of collagen in the skin, as if the body is trying to heal wounds that aren’t there.
While scleroderma, which literally means “hard skin,” causes many skin problems like dryness and itching, it can also affect internal organs like the heart and lungs. Furthermore, the tightening of skin and connective tissues often results in contracted fingers and other contracted joints.
Skin care matters
There is no cure for scleroderma, but taking precautions and caring for ones skin are very important when living with this disease.
In addition to a healthy diet and certain medications, creams and moisturizing lotions are recommended for people with scleroderma. Every case of scleroderma is different and the severity of the disease varies greatly from person to person. Choosing the right lotion will doubtless be a process of trial and error.
However, when you find the lotion that reduces your itching and increases skin moisture, you will be doing a great favor for your health and wellbeing. Moisturizing is part of treating and preventing adverse effects of scleroderma.
TriDerma brings many options
Perhaps TriDerma creams are right for you. These creams have Genuine Virgin Aloe Vera, which helps heal and moisturize dry and irritated skin, and other helpful ingredients depending on the version of TriDerma cream you decide to get.
TriDerma Extreme Moisturizer is not only made to treat dry, chapped and cracked skin, but also helps to reduce itching, a very common symptom of scleroderma. TriDerma Extreme Moisturizer’s ingredients make it useful for maintaining healthy skin during harsh, cold weather conditions, which greatly affect the skin of people with scleroderma.
With scleroderma, different sections of skin may be more affected than others. For many, skin around the nose and mouth may be greatly affected, causing various problems. TriDerma Nasal Dryness and Chafing Aloe Gel is made specifically to relieve symptoms of skin irritation around the nose.
TriDerma Pain Relief Cream also treats dryness, itching and burning, plus it contains two powerful pain relievers to treat joint, back and muscle pain.
There is no cure for scleroderma, but there are steps you can take to increase health and quality of life. As always, it is important to discuss issues and strategies with your doctor.
