Take matters into your own hands with the right portable ramp

When faced with those annoying steps and thresholds, whether at home or out and about, consider solving the problem with a simple portable access ramp.

People who rely on a wheelchair for their mobility face many obstacles in society, but one that is particularly troublesome and limiting is the wide presence of steps and curbs. Although the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 has helped to cause buildings to be more accessible, it is still not uncommon to come across entrances with no ramps. The ADA is not always enforced, and small businesses, like hole-in-the-wall restaurants, are often inaccessible. With our portable access ramps, you can take the situation into your own hands and free yourself to go anywhere without worrying as much about whether there will be a step to overcome.

Determine the appropriate ramp for your needs

Of course, finding the right ramp for your situation is important, as a single ramp will not work for every step. Read your wheelchair’s manual guide or your wheelchair vender to find how much of an incline your chair can reasonably climb, and also refer to the EZ Access Incline Chart, which can be a useful resource. Also, ask yourself what situations you are trying to solve by buying a ramp. Are your wanting to climb two or three steps, or are we talking about a single step of only two or three inches? Do you want to install the ramp permanently for your home entrance or that of a friend or relative, or are you looking for something to take with you wherever you go? In any case, make sure to measure the width of your wheelchair from wheel to wheel.

Overcome large steps

For multiple steps or high steps, you may want to consider our EZ Access Signature Series Suitcase Ramps, which come in seven sizes from two feet to eight feet long. The two tracks are connected together and fold onto each other to be carried like a suitcase.

Clear the threshold

On the other hand, you may be looking for something simpler to get over smaller obstacles. For this, we have the EZ Access Aluminum Threshold Ramps, which can be installed permanently with the pre-drilled holes or used temporarily as a portable ramp. They come in seven sizes and can support up to 600 pounds.

An alternative to the Aluminum Threshold Ramps are the EZ Access Beveled Rubber Threshold Ramps, which are particularly lightweight and portable. Since they are made of rubber, they stay in place easily without the need for drilling. They come in two sizes — 1.5 inch and 2.5 inch.

It should go without saying that all of the above ramps are made with non-skid surfaces to offer maximum traction.
