Toothettes® are soft foam disposable swabs for oral hygiene. Each package includes 20 individually wrapped swabs.

Toothettes Individually Wrapped Package of 20 include foam swabs with ridges for oral stimulation and gentle cleaning. Toothettes are available without flavoring. The Treated Toothettes have a peppermint-flavor, and are available by special request. Toothettes Individually Wrapped Package of 20 help make oral hygiene care and cleaning easier for people who are unable to use a standard toothbrush.

Q: I have a 10 year old with Down syndrome and ASD and brushing teeth is a challenge. My father mentioned to me that the health aides used a swab for my mother who had post-polio syndrome and dementia in order to clean her teeth. I was wondering if these are similar or are of the same product my father was mentioning. Do you put toothpaste on the brush head or is there toothpaste on them? Are they safe for a 10 year old to bite down on them and they won't break?

A: The Toothettes come "treated" with mint flavor or "untreated", you can put toothpaste on them and use like a toothbrush. They are safe for children but if bitten there isn't a guarantee the foam won't tear away from the stick. It's not recommended to let children use unsupervised.
